I have not been keeping track of Clements scores, but the Dulles HS math scores for UIL A are:

9th Gr
Rig Nag 284
Sushain Cherivirala 250
Siddarth Guha 236
Saiesh Kalva 232

10th Gr
Mitchell Hwang 298
Kevin Li 254
Arjun Goswami 206

11th Gr
Bobby Shen 344
Daniel Fan 328

12th Gr

Hmm... I have to compete with Mitchell. I wonder if I can keep up.

Can you post the NS/Calc scores as well, if it's not too much trouble?
And Science? Sorry. I'm mainly concerned with 9/10 though.

NOOOOOO!
Mitchell is good at Science! That was my lone hope...
Alright, I'm gonna have to outman face to face now.
Nah, he won.

You're from Dulles? Congrats on the excellent program.

If I remember correctly, and I can differentiate A and B,
Invitational A:
NS - 283 (301 + 2 handwriting mistakes, 3 skips)
MA - 260?
CA - 183
SC - 206?
CS - 200

Then, I got these for Invitational B.

NS - 269
MA - 282
CA - 199
SC - 228
CS - 186 or so, 1 omit.

EDIT: Mitchell is the WORST OUT OF ALL OF THEM AT SCIENCE. I AM SO SCREWED.
:'(
I have to compete with the big boys now, and I have to face them alone. No help from any teammates :'(.

I am assuming you are going to TMSCA State. Am I correct?
I would really like to meet you guys! Am I worthy of your presence? lol
You guys make my school look like third graders.
Could I also ask, which one of those names is yours?

LOL, you are funny.
The way I look at it, it is 2 to 2 - Even
You are ahead NS and SC
Mitchell are MA and CA.
This should be an interesting matchup at TMSCA State.
I am currious to see how it will turn out.
Good luck to you and congrat on your success.
See you in San Antonio :)

Ahhh... you forgot one of the most important factors of all.
Experience.
Along with a supporting team, so resources as well.
Could you explain how top gun works? I was hoping for that but...
then came Dulles. I am too a victim.
And what kind of things will the other schools, such as Clements, Flower Mound, etc. bring if they show up?
Haha, if I'm worried about myself doing well, my teammates are in for a nice surprise, even though I already told them that they will get WHOOPED without preparation.
Is there an award for most people who get last place?

To: NSGuy
I think you are too hard on yourself, but that is good-that kind of motivation will drive you to be one of the best.
Also, don't be too hard on your teammates and coach. You have to understand that there are smart students at all high schools. The difference between a state champion/contending team and others are the commitment of the Math/Science Coach(es) and how they motivate their students to work. Unlike sport, academic coaches are an after- thought at most schools. If we were a sport team, then it will be a different story. Most of the coaches (like me for 16 yrs) do it for the passion and for the students. We do not get compensate for it. All the hours after school and Saturdays we put in without as much as a thank you from the administration. Just want you to know that before you get too dishearten with your teammates and coaches.
As for top gun in each grade division at TMSCA State, you get 15 pts for 1st, 14 pts for 2nd, and so on up to 15 places. The one that accumulate the most points in all four contests become the top gun and so on.
The Dulles Team will be staying at Marriot where TMSCA State registration/coaches meeting will take place. The team will be there Thursday evening. We will practice Thursday and Friday. You are welcome to join us if your coach has no objection. Email me at Dulles01@hotmail.com for my cell number and info. Dulles Math Coach is a former state champions in 5A math. He is the best IMHO :) The science coach is not bad either <grin-grin>.

Oh, you're the coach!
That's cool.
I knew the point system, but I want to know: how is the award divided?
Is there a 1A - 5A top gun, or a 9th-12th top gun, an overall top gun, or a 1A-9th - 5A - 12th top gun?
Basically, how many top gun awards are there? Is there a 5A-sophomore vs 5A-junior distinction?
My coach is new, and we're trying to start a good program, but not many people are motivated. Being 5A and only having 400 kids su-cks.
Any suggestions? I've tried typing up practice materials, I even teach during NS practice, and I made practice worksheets and things as well. Unfortunately, not much has come to fruition.

Viking1 is the former Dulles coach, I am the current Dulles coach (his former student). =]
And different classifications compete separately, so you probably don't get to see 3A or 4A people. For 5A, top 6 places top gun of each grade level gets recognized (supposely), first place in each grade level gets a nice plaque. Seniors top 6 top guns all have scholarship money.

Alright, then I really hope I get recognized, at least in top 6.
I want that plaque though! Unfortunately, I have to go through Dulles :(.
You won Math before? Congratulations! You have a student who did that as well, so I guess it runs in the "Dulles family".
What if Bobby Shen became Dulles coach? That'd be interesting!
Hopefully, you can recognize my school after a while. I hope to build a strong program at my school before I graduate.

007math, I thought you were high 300s in Math.
I don't think that's normal. Is there anyone else at that level, or close?

Re: Best Math Teams in 5A?

My scores are highly unpredictable. I may be high 300s on one test, but fall to low 300s on another (and as I learned last year, a 318 doesn't get you a medal at UIL State :( )

I don't mean offense to anyone at our school, but our team is very weak. In NS, average scores would be mid to upper 100s. Calculator, average score would be 200. In mathematics, excluding me the average score is just about 200. We have this beast guy in science though; he had a 260 or 280 something on that insane TMSCA 13 science test.

If you don't mind me asking, what school are you from? I hope you are not in our region since you'd be a fierce competitor :D

I only took 6 freshmen and 2 sophomores to TMSCA #13, because most of my top students were at chemistry olympiad. So the scores were mostly 100s and a few low 200s, nothing competitive.
And I hope 5A award ceremony will be indoor this year, otherwise no one could hear anything.
And, haven't seen Clements people in a long time....

And to anyone going to TMSCA State: bring food. Last two years, the competition-awards has lasted from like 8-4ish and they don't really have any food places in the building or near. Two years ago our entire team starved between those hours, but last year we went between science and awards to a nearby fast food place. If you don't have transportation to get food then bring it unless you want to starve. And finding a spot to sit is hard too, as is finding a plug to charge phone/laptop. No free wifi i believe.

You can buy meal tickets when you register (even though the food is not great at all). If your school did not purchase meal tickets, then it will be hard to find food because the campus is mostly closed due to spring break.

ADEESH JAIN.
I recognize that name! You're a beast!
My name is Wesley Runnels, Science and Engineering Magnet, 5A, Region 2, District 9. I believe you are Region 1, definitely not 2, so don't worry.
Not that I could do that well in Math anyways.

And thanks for the advice!

I wouldn't say beast.....you can still own me in NS since my scores have been pretty bad lately. I started off in the year with mid 200s and now im scoring upper 100s :O. The numbers get jumbled up in my head so i might at 24 instead of 42....

Haha OK, but I'm sure you will place at State this year. I tend to # in NS at competition, so although I know I can get really close to 400 in practice, I have trouble reaching 300 in competition. Why did your score drop? Was it a lack of practice, or a "burn-out", or something else? And yes, the numbers get jumbled up in my head as well sometimes, and I wonder what I was thinking when I took the test.
I'm gonna make sure I can do well enough in MA/CA to comfort my scores a bit. I'm going to try to get my Calc scores up in the low-mid 200s or so, and my Math to be ~ 320-330 or so.
I have to memorize my mathematicians, and geometry, and other things. I'm going to try to keep my NS streak going, so I walk in there with confidence, and I hope it shows in competition.
