As the calc coach from hirschi, iwas surprised by this yrs regional test. Word prob were tough even tho geo were predictable. Looking forward to the state test cause I know my Shri G can compete. :)

I thought Number Sense, Computer Applications, Math, and Computer Science were unusually easy for a regional test, especially in comparison to the District tests.

My scores:
Number Sense - 252 (should have actually been better. Forgot a few negatives...)
Computer App - 300 (just as easy as the district test.)
Calculator - 275 (word problems were too long, but the geometry problems and back page problems were very easy)
Science - 180 (chemistry was decently predictable, but I still have a bit of trouble on 2 of the problems, and physics was awful)
Math - 314 (very easy)
Comp Sci - 206 (very easy, as were the programming. It seems like the regional scores are going to be a bad prediction for the state test as the programs will be muuch harder at that level)

I was very unimpressed with the difficulty of Computer Applications and Computer Science. I really wish they would have been harder just so that the competition would get weeded out a little more so we can get an idea of how the State test will go. Especially, specifically for Computer Applications, when the state test is generally 100% impossible to get close to finishing. Last year was awful, and if this year's test is anything like last year's, I will not be impressed with the writer at all.
District 1- NS: 233; CA: 267; MA: 264; SC: 208 (Top Chem & Physics & 2nd Bio!); CS: 178
Regional - NS: 252; CA: 275; MA: 314; SC: 186 (Top Chem & 2nd Bio!); CS: 206
State Goals - NS: 250; CA; 275; MA: 300; SC:175 (Top Chem AND Bio!); CS: 200

ok, first of all, dillon, you gotta know that you have worked a lot, and others haven't as much. also not everybody has the desire to learn this stuff...and the test writers do the best they can, the test can help teach ppl and not just test them...
btw good job...i look forward to compete next week. Give God all the glory because he deserves it!

As the hirschi calc coach, I was pretty surprised by the regional test. I found out later that some kids archive programs that give them an advantage on difficult problems. As an old school coach who competed @ state in the 90's, that makes me feel rather ill.

Calculator is about problem solving. Period. Those who take short cuts should stick to # sense IMHO.

Good luck to you all at state. Unfortunately I came out on the wrong end. Tied for 6th in NS, Region 1-4A. Missed 3rd by 4 measely mistakes. One was an order of operation, another was the length of the altitude to the hypotenuse(I put 41/360) not the other way around. I skipped somehow 37.5 percent of 320 which was so stupid and easy. There was a few others that I should not have missed. Oh well. I still look to take both NS and Math test from state once available. I want to see what could've, but will never, have been. Once again, good luck at state! Best wishes to EP rep Paul Salcido(Calc- 4A from Del Valle), Trevor Davila(Denton- 4A, you better win state in NS and Math hopefully), and Dat Nygyen in math. Do your best to prepare!
Region1-4A Results
Math- 146
NS- 130- Good luck to all at state! Next for me, AP Calculus Test.
