I got 3rd in 5A for Mathematics, but the dumb mistakes I did which cost me the possible 344 I could've and should've gotten resulted in me getting the 312 that I did.
Mistake 1: I missed #2, which dealt with unions and intersections of lists. I'm fine with missing that one, but the others are just retarded.
Mistake 2: I missed #22, which dealt with angle of rotation. Why did I miss it? Well, the way I do these problems is tan(2x) = b/(a-c), to save myself some time because I don't have a cotangent button on my calculator. Yes, the ti-89 has the function somewhere, but that would take longer as opposed to using tan. Now, while doing the problem, I thought to myself that the reason cot(2x) = (a-c)/b is used in textbooks and whatnot, is because in some instances a-c = 0, and if you're using tan(2x) that means that your answer will be undefined, meaning you can't get the angle you're looking for. Because I had this thought racing through my head, I quickly did the following: tan(2x) = (a-c)/b. You tell me what's wrong with that.
Mistake 3: I missed #26, which dealt with Yip, Yap, and Yep. The wanted the three stones in order of their value from highest to lowest. I answered it from lowest to highest, fml.
Mistake 4: I missed #34, which dealt with someone spending 1/12 of their money every month for the whole year and then wanting to know how much money was spent in total by the end of the year. In short, I didn't get how much was spent, but how much was left.
Mistake 5: I missed #49, the one with the circle and finding the length of an intercepted arc. Now, if you ask me, this is probably the stupidest mistake I made on the entire test. Apparently, I was going so fast that I didn't read the entire question and assumed that P was the center of the circle, when evidently O was, which led me to the wrong answer.
Like I said earlier, I'm fine with missing #2, but when you add the other 4 mistakes to the score I got it comes out to...
312 + 8(4) = 312 + 32 = 344, which would have won the tournament...
