Our school receives grants, but, in my opinion, uses them poorly. We had one for a tornado evacuation "dome" that could also be used for a basketball stadium. The school felt the need to have 8 scoreboards (we are 1A), and a spectacular concession stand with a dining area. What makes it a poor decision is that there are only three-hundred or so seats, barely enough to hold all of the district. Plus, it is on the opposite side of the high school, so walking over there with a tornado nearby may not be the best idea. Also, the baseball field is owned by a member of the community, but he makes the school district pay for them to play on it. I'm not degrading sports, but I do believe there needs to be a decisive line between the academics budget and the athletics budget. The only reason I got the UIL supplies I wanted was because I won state last year.
@FabensMath, I think you can, but it affects every activity. You can't compete in 4A for academics, but your school's baseball team compete in 3A. Plus, I think the deadline to submit that request has passed.
