General Score Needed to Break Regionals?

Postby BlasianAsian » Wed Apr 04, 2012 8:56 pm

If anyone's in the same region as me and has done this previously, can you please let me know what score to shoot for to break regionals? Is it 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pretty much go? The same as districts?

Man, I really wanna go to state...but...too stupid...)=

You are in my region, so this is what I think will guarantee advancement unless the test turns out to be hard/easy:

Math: So far I have the only 300+ from districts, so I would say get a 300 or 310+ and you should be fine.
Number Sense: From historical scores, 200+ seems to get you past region but 250+ will be on the safe side.
Calculator: One year, 220 was the highest score, and last year it was well above 230 or 240 i think. Since the competition in calculator is a little greater, I would say 240+ to guarantee.

Note: These will not guarantee. lol.

And yes, top 3 individuals go as well as top team.

Ooooh...man...IDK. I only made it in Calc, and 230 seems....hmmm...I'll have to get lucky on some of the word problems....awww man....seems....oooh....hmmm...

Thanks!

Study the "Study List", they're not hard, just memorize, so let's say you get those right, that's another +25 points, so even with the 185, you change it to 185+25=210, which might have a chance. You still have two weeks, learn to recognize repeated problems, matrix, calculus basics, solvers, linear regressions, scaling principles, etc.

Yeah. Somehow, I know how to find the determinant of a 3 by 3 matrix. And I learned a ton of accleration/trajectory formulas. So...I guess...now that you mention it...

I'm assuming I missed some number crunchers, because normally I get around the 200s... Unavoidable mistakes...*sigh*

Wait...what's the 'study list'?

For the problems in the last page...me and nsguy1350 just made a thread on all these problems.

Go to the three left links, and the two posts on the forum. The geometry study guide is done, and Fabens did most of the stated study guide, which I will try to help with later.

Wait. Are you saying that those study list problems are repeated on the actual test word for word (or shape for shape and number for number)?

:O

If that is true, I'm gonna memorize the answers to those XD.

Oh, they change the numbers. The problems should be identical besides the numbers.
Actually, I think I saw one where they had a very similar problem, but it looked slightly different. They should be the same problems though.

Nope, Dr.Bourell says that he repeats problems throughout the year to avoid pin-pointing out the problems at district, region, and state.

So what you are saying is he will certainly repeat at least one type of problem so studying district problems from study guide would guarantee seeing one of them?

I like to cheat the system :D

EDIT: Did invitational A, B, etc. also utilize this study guide?

I believe so. I think even the TMSCA tests might use the study guide.
But yes, review all 50, because you're never safe.

He'll repeat problems, but that's because he makes TMSCA test #6(UIL C), test #13(UIL D), TMSCA STATE(UIL E), Invitational A, Invitational B, District 1 (UIL F), District 2 (UIL G), Region (UIL H) ,and State (UIL I)... so he actually has to repeat.

Actually, there are 18 geometry and 27 problems used from those 9 tests, as far as I see it. He'd have 5 problems to spare.

Thanks guys! Today is probably the most I've learned about the calculator test...I've always thought 66-70 were supposed to be insanely hard so I never attempted them. Gotta work on those study guides now!

Free 25 points if you know how to solve the study guide problems.

These five are no use to me unless I can speed up...My crunchers are currently 10 minutes but it seems like I am going to have to cut that in order to do more word/geo problems :(
