So how was regionals. I wasn't there and I just wanted to know how others were doing (nsgut, murali). Who placed! and what kind of scores? Did Weseley get another 338 in math? I heard Weseley got first in numsense(what a surprise) and Calc placed first. How did you guys do overall?

My UIL Academics Career is officially over. Placed 20th out of 51 in Science (Hey, I consider that a great success considering I had absolutely zero FIRST-hand experience at Regionals before.

Top half, and I consider that a great achievement, considering that I faced the best of the best from Districts 1-8 in 4A...

I don't even.

It wasn't that bad...when can we talk about the tests? Is there any other day for regionals?

All the Regional competitions took place within the same 3 day period. It will be ok to talk about the test now.

I got 1st NS with a 309. Had time for 79/80, but I did not know the sequence pattern to 79 and therefore did not attempt to get past it. :(
NS - 2nd team, scores of 309, 141, 135

I got 1st CA with a 245 (expected better, 4/5 study guide.) A girl from my school got 2nd with a 226.
CA - 1st team, scores of 245, 226, ~157 -- STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First time ever SEM has had someone go to State in any math event, individually or team.

I got 2nd MA with a 274 (horrible.) I guessed on two and got them wrong, and then I put an answer to another by accident and got it wrong. Should've had a 280 if I wasn't dumb.
That ALMOST cost me, as 3rd and 4th were both 272. Freshman that I never heard of got 1st with a 324. Bobby Shen got a 360.
MA - 4th or 5th team, scores of 274, 152, ~120

I did not place in Science. Team members got 5th and 6th with 242, 240. I got alternate bio with a 90, and one guy got alternate physics with a 100. Score was 182.
SC - 2nd place team, with scores of 242, 240, 182. Lost by 12 pts.

NS - 319/355
MA - 340/332

Anyways, talking about the competition I was in, Science. My Powerhouse is Biology. But in this case, my powerhouse got filled up with TNT, every square foot of it, and it detonated after the third question. [Metaphorically speaking]. Managed to break 100 still with Chemistry and Physics.

I checked results from other regions, and, well...

I did terrible. NS who cares, because I'm the team's fourth scorer anyways, but math was a good 40 points lower than anything I've gotten all year. I mad.

284 science wasn't bad, though.

1st NS, with a 305. I should've gotten a 332 if it wasn't for handwriting mistakes >:( also I got tied for 1st in the state(3A), which means I'll have to work hard to win this thing. tied for 4th overall though, so I'm happy, especially with such a strange test. 1st team
4th calc, with a 220. Meh, could've been better. team swept 1-4.
1st math, with a 250. so slooooooooooow. 1st in 3A by 4 points, needs improvement. This was by far the hardest test I've ever taken. 1st team.
1st physics, with a 112(physics is all I did). Yay I get to to go state now! although someone from my team almost beat me with a 108 :P. I love mechanics heavy tests like this! 1st team.

I'm really unsure about state though; I was very surprised when I only saw three math scores in the 300s.....that's like just weird. One cannot say the test was hard because Bobby Shen aced it so I'm really wondering what happened to all those 330s+ at districts...in my opinion, the district test was harder than this...

Postby nsguy1350 » Sun Apr 22, 2012 8:22 am

The test was pretty difficult to me. I really skipped around 8 problems, although I put answers for three I shouldn't have (2 guess, 1 accidental.)

I haven't practiced Math for a while and haven't tried to ask/solve the problems that I did not know how to do. I guess I got lazy before Region :(
I guess now, I have one month to clean it up. I'll try to figure out all those problems. Same for Calc. I guess I still have a few things to work on in NS as well. Now that I'm 2nd in 5A, I have to make sure nobody can catch me and that I can provide some resistance to Bobby Shen. How that will work, I don't know, but it's worth a shot.

MA is an event where I hope I can place, especially if I learn how to do some of those problems I skipped.
CA will be a shootout. Top 10 will be within 20-40 points, possibly. Well, there might be a couple who jump ahead and break that, but the majority should be within that range.

EDIT: Actually, Region 4 hasn't posted individual results for NS yet for some reason. That means I don't know individual rankings for that either :(
Still, the only person who broke 250 at District from Region 4 was Kevin Pallapati, so either he passed me or he didn't. I highly doubt anyone else did.

Will there be a sevenllamas Region ranking up soon? That'd be great! Just to see the ranks a bit easier.
Time to play catch-up :/ my District rankings were a bit changed after Region.

#71 was the asymptotes one (I forgot exactly what it was).

I haven't seen #79 (I stopped on #70), and my coach has my test.

EDIT: Looks like the sequence was extremely hard. Bobby Shen (354) probably stopped at 78, as did Jack Terrell (#1 4A, 318).

So, I have posted on the forum since District, mainly since I was focusing on practice and AP tests, but here's my results:
4A Region III

2nd place number sense with a 164. 1st was Steven Xu who scored a 264. What's weird about number sense is that I didn't practice at all. At all. The regional test was the first number sense test I've glanced at since the district test. I was just so daunted by the other district scores from that district test that I decided to focus on calculator and science . . . and then I get 2nd at regionals with an all-time high score for me? definitely odd.
3rd place calculator with 217 (again lost to Steven Xu, who made 2nd; but this time it was by one point. AHHH)
4th science with a 216 and 2nd Physics with a 108. Science is particularly depressing to me because I missed 3rd place by two points and top physics by two points. If I wouldn't have guessed on stupid number 60...
top scores
NS: 164 Regional 2012
