Yes, after seeing that I didn't get too many responses, I put it off and forgot about it. I'd like to do it for state if enough people sign up.

I think that that draft system seems fine, and I'd like to see who can pick the best team. I think it's more fun if you don't pick obvious people each time (i.e. Bobby Shen and similarly good people) but take chances and risks on at least a few of your picks.

How about we use two people for the utility: from them we can pick the top score of each of the 4 events and use that to calculate the final total?

Right, so let's say you have one person picked for each of the 4 events, and Resley Wunnels picked as your utility.

To make things simple, suppose the ceiling for each event is 300. Suppose Resley scores:
NS - 306 = 102%
Calc - 318 = 106%
Math - 294 = 98%
Science - 66 = 22%

Resley's two best adjusted percentages are 102 and 106, so his total utility score is 104. This prevents any advantages gained from, say, a super easy Calc test, while also meaning that the utility doesn't have to be in all 4 events.

I think an optimal size for this would be 6-8 people, so I guess we can do the whole draft thing soon after we reach that.

Looking at the old UIL fantasy drafts, it looks like they did it live using Google accounts(not sure how). I'm not really sure how else to do it, except maybe making a list of people we want and just getting the highest person on that list(though that seems disadvantageous since you can end up having one subject not covered). Both of the options seem fickle to me, anyone have any suggestions for this?

And would anyone be interested in a rule requiring one non-5A person per team? Or is that unnecessary?

Wouldn't it be better to have a team per classification? Or is that just too much?

One for 5A and one for 4A and below? 2 per position is easily manageable...thoughts?

It's great how UIL academics has turned out to be more of a "sport" in the sense - like soccer or football or basketball.
However, I see this fantasy league as more of a waste of time. Sorry for anyone offended but that is my frank opinion.
I mean that this is more of a waste of time because we could be doing other UIL practice that other schools that are going to state and are not on this forum may be doing.
While we discuss scores, if someone else practices, they may cause all the dissapointment after your state competition.
You may be able to argue that this is a relaxation but think about it guys.
My teacher often tells me that every second is as precious as gold. I say we start this league after all the competition is over.
Although I am not going to state, I am just saying that this might be better to continue later, that is if you really feel it is a good use of time.

I'd rather waste my time living than working. Sure winning is fun, but it's not worth sacrificing craploads of time, at least to me. Besides, the major players at state aren't devoting every living moment to practicing, at most they probably take a couple of test a day, which only takes about 2 hours a day, really not that much.

I'm ok with the 5A and the rest idea, but I think the decision should go to the 5Aers, since they have to put more effort into looking for quality 4Aers and below as opposed to us 4Aers who have a good knowledge of 4A and a lot to choose from in 5A.

Actually, I had already told my utilities and bla bla bla earlier - in another post, not on this thread - but ugh... I dont get the new rules

So when are we going to do this? State is approaching pretty quickly, and it would be a shame to be unable to do it.
