so what's the highest math class offered at your school? calculus AP here

BC Calc here too. Although another UILer (Kiefer Aguilar) and I take math/physics classes at Texas Tech University, since it is nearby.

It's not exactly a widespread school-sanctioned thing though...basically, we go MWF mornings to Tech, but according to Lubbock High, we just have opens during those class periods.

Anyway, as far as math goes, I'm in differential equations this semester. Last semester I took multivariable calc.

I think next year Lubbock High is going to start offering Calc III and DE classes at the school though. This is our first year to have ninth graders on campus, and so a lot more kids now have the opportunity to have finished calculus before their senior year.

Yeah basically people who are ahead a year at my school get to take calculus senior year, and i don't even think we offer the BC exam. That's why I wanted to test out of Calculus and take a college math class at a local university, but none of them offer good programs so basically I have to take Calculus next year and hope that I can somehow convince the school to administer the BC exam. (Another reason why my school # with math and why I'm the UIL MA,CA, and NS coach).

Our school offer "AP Calc", but our counselor puts every idiot in our school in there so its really pretty lame. Luckily, they make Shaum's outlines, AP guides, and Calclulus for dummies for people like me. I should be able to ace BC by this may.

Yeah, we're deep into the second semester and just finishing derivatives (no one even has an in depth understanding of them). I scoff at the rest of the students daily for complaining about how hard it is. The people who really need the class (i.e. the rest of the UIL team) can't get the knowledge they need through the course. We all have to do outside study.

Our highest math course is Multivariable Calculus/Differential Equations (or C3DE). We have five this year and have four signed up for next term. We finally got honors designation for it starting next year (obviously no AP designation in the future.)

Texts are Larson's Calculus, Chapters 11-16 for C3, Edwards/Penney Elementary Differential Equations Chapters 1-5 for DE.

I have TEA numbers for people wanting to get such a course started at their campus. With the 4x4, I know department heads on other campuses are looking for a fourth course for enterprising youths, and since our district started teaching Geometry in eight grade (for those completing Algebra I in seventh) we should have more coming in the future.

It's unfortunate, I never got ahead in math. I'm still lagging back in Precal, and I'll be taking Calculus next year as a senior. You UIL people in higher-level math make me feel dumb.

Hey Im a junior and Im in precal... that is the advanced math for juniors at our school... I wish I was in calculus at times because this trig stuff is getting on my nerves... I like what we are doing right now with parametric equations and polar graphing but when we were doing sine waves and we had to tune a bottle to a certain note frequency so our class could play twinkle twinkle little star... lol... I dont like sine waves... I know it only gets worse in calculus but I wish I could just get there already... lol... Im impatient

anyone jumping from precalc to BC next year?

The BC teacher came to our precalc class, and gave a huge speech about "Don't be stupid, take AB, not BC"

but im taking BC anyways, though im not sure i would like to do 75 calculs problems a night

Eh. I've never done much Calculus. For all I know, I'll get there, flounder, and bomb. Kinda like Physics for me.

So in our pre-cal class today, we learned that "positive points up, negative points down". No joke. 8th grade art was more intense than this class. That's why I do UIL.
