How to qualify for regional and state?

Ok I am in ninth grade. To qualify for regional, do you need to get top 3 for all the grade levels(9-12)? Also to qualify for state?

Basically I'm saying do I need to place top 3 to advance to the next meet?

Yes, at district you need to get top 3, and at region you need to get top 3 to advance to state. Note that at district, region, and state competition is not divided by grade level.

Ok , so basically (since I am a freshman) I am going to have to compete against 10, 11, and 12 graders in the district meet to advance to regionals ?

I don't like to think of it that way. Schools will appoint the best of the best in their "pool" of students to represent their school. It doesn't really matter what grade your in. Although I would see why some people complain about grade, what "grade" they are in only matters if they have been doing UIL continuously. If they are not experienced, then you shouldn't worry.

Yea, you're going to have to beat sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well. TMSCA is by grade level, while UIL is not. Top 3, a spot on the team, or top Bio/Chem/Physics in Science will advance you.

District is March 24 I believe. Region is about a month after, State a month after Region.
If you don't make the District team in any event, there are no more competitions.
If you make District but don't advance to Regionals, see you next year! (unless you are a senior, then, :[ )
If you make Region but don't make State, then your year is over as well.
And if you make State, then your UIL year is over after that competition.

It's not really about "good score for a freshman", because there are no divisions, although I know what you mean. Since most freshman don't have that much CS experience, anything that places in good competition is nice. Overall, you'll need 200+ to place, often, and get 220+ to advance, with 240s taking the top few spots in the tough Regions/State, unless there is an omitted question or there is a really hard test.
