Just do regular multiplication, but write and carry in base 8.
4x4 = 16 = 20 base 8, so write 0, carry 2.
4 x 4 + 2 = 18 = 22 base 8, write 22.
Since the divisor is one less than the base of the dividend, you can just perform the necessary operations on the digits, and add the digits of each number to "simplify them".
(6+7) + (8+4) / 8 = 25 / 8 which has a remainder of 1.

If it asks you to find the nth term of an arithmetic sequence, take the common difference, d, and multiply it by (n-1). Then, add that to the first term to get your answer.
