Regional #72 2013 Question?

Postby NS10 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 10:28 pm

Hey does anyone know how to do this?

72. F(x)=(x-1)^6. Find F'(3)

I realize it would be possible to expand and then take the derivative, but is there any faster/easier way to do this? Thanks

Luckily, there's no need to expand. Using the chain rule, we get F'(x)=6(x-1)^5(1). Thus, F'(3) = 6*(2^5)=192
