09Q-59. It's a picture of y=e^(ax), with the area under the curve shaded from x=1 to x=2, and shaded area is 3.46. a = ?

Integrate y and you get e^(ax)/a. Then just plug in your limits and you get 3.46= e^(2a)/a-e^(a)/a. Then just use your calculator to solve and get a=.809
I think that's how it's done.

How do you simplify the punch-in:

Since you use the value [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] three times, I would store the value in [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula]... or whatever your favorite letter is.

Well, I try not to use calculators anymore... but you can use the STO button to store a value in the following way:

1) Perform calculations, etc. until the value you wish to be stored is displayed on the screen.
2) Press STO, then the button for whatever letter you want it to be stored in (the HP32SII has 26 compartments to store numbers).
3) Whenever you want to recall the number, press RCL and that letter. It will be as if you typed it in yourself.

Note, you can use these letters in the EQN solever. It will regard the letters as constants. Moreover, if you solve for a letter, it will store the solution in that letter compartment.
