OK, well I have some solutions, except they aren't mine (Fabens), so credit him.
Let a = arc length, c = chord length, where c is the arc length minus the distance moved, and d be the distance above ground.

The sin and the solving for two variables makes finding one formula difficult or not possible. You could simplify a bit more, only having to solve for one variable, if you use:

Make sure you factor in the mm in the given problem, and you multiply by 100 at the end.
