percent error and percent difference signs

The sign rules for percent error and percent difference don't seem to be consistent to me. I'm pretty sure percent difference is always (second number-first number)/first number, so there's no worries with that. However, percent error doesn't seem to be consistent. The UIL D test makes is seem like it's the same idea, i.e. estimate-actual/actual, but district 2 has it as actual-estimate/actual. I'm not sure why there's an inconsistency here.

I don't see an inconsistency...in District 2, the actual is [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] and estimate is [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula]. Doing [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] I get the answer in the answer key...

EDIT: Checked out UIL D and it seems consistent.

but the problem says that 2pi is approximate and 44/7 is real. At least that's how I'm interpreting it

Yeah, I read it over again and realized what angle you are coming from. Do you think the first number is always meant to be the estimate and the second actual?

It's the other way around on UIL A :/. I'm really hoping district 2 was just a key error.

but the problem literally words it as "approximated by 2pi" and the other value is exact.

haha It's ok and yeah the wording is really weird. It caught me off guard when I first took the test. I wish they would be more specific on those problems, i've probably missed 2/3 of those types that I've attempted because of sign mistakes DX

Yeah, someone seriously needs to reconsider rewording some of these problems. And I mean it. This was one of the reasons I didn't get to go to state...*mumbles something angry and incoherent*
