Number Cruncher problem

While doing some number crunchers, I came across a symbol that looked like a '1' with two dots on top of it...
Can anyone tell me what that symbol stands for and how I enter it into my HP Calculator?

Number Cruncher packet has some typos. The computer that renders it doesn't render the symbols correctly or something, and it replaces those symbols with the wrong ones.
I don't know what that one is. The spanish letter: n with a ~ on top is a negative sign I believe, and a large box is a degree symbol. Skip those with the strange symbols you don't know.

Also...When doing number crunchers, at first for a few questions, I get like 504 but when I check the ans. key, it says 503. So, when I try the same problem back into the HP, I get 503.
I don't get why I didn't get 503 in the first place! How do I solve this issue? I missed like 3 - 4 number crunchers on the packet just b/c of this reason.

If you had 504 and the answer was 503 you got it right. Your last digit can be off by 1 in the Calculator test (saved me a couple of times).

Except on integer problems; 178889 would be wrong if the answer is 178890.

Another question:

I was doing the NC packet and I was on the 3rd page questions; I did two sets timedand these were the results:

1st set - 10 questions - 3 min 40 sec - missed 3
2nd set - 15 questions - 5 min - missed 3

How would you rate this performance from a scale of 1 to 10?

Your goal is to practice until you get them all right. I think accuracy should come before speed, since this one should come naturally with time.
