In my desperate attempt to make it to state, I'm trying to memorize the study list for an ez 25 pts on the regional test.

I'm getting 224.... the answer ( 168) is 75% of that - wording issue?

does the candle have proportionally adjusted dimensions in all 3 dimensions after burning? or are the two radii the same and just length different afterwards? Only the length changing seems to make sense but I didn't get the right answer w/ that

find the two radii you get 3.986 and 1.563 (solve for areas)

so then call the center of the big quarter circle A and center of small quarter circle B

and then the point where the line hits the big C and hits the small D

Notice that C is tangent to the big quarter circle, so ACD is a right angle...

note: AD Is the hypotenuse of ABD

I don't take the calculator test, but i was just curious about what the study list is for except for the obvious "studying".

his tests give you the study list...every problem has a trick to it (except maybe on the front and a couple on the back) you just have to see it...

also he uses the same tricks the whole year...just expands them and makes them become more involved

I guess i haven't seen it then. Hmmmm. lol. J/K. So if i know how to do most of the problems on this years UIL tests, then will i be okay at regionals? I don't know why, but i am starting to become very nervous towards regionals. I can just feel that my nerves are going to get the better of me on test day and ruin the chance that i have of advancing to state. I can remember at one meet this year (i think it was invite B), before the numbersense test, i drank a can of full throttle. I didn't get nervous and i strolled through the test. I guess the mass amounts of sugar and caffiene takes some of your nerves away. Or does it?......

uhh well...yeah

however, you probably in order to maximize your score should spend time looking at the problems on this years tests...and finding variations and extensions of the tests...also continue to post on the forum with all of your questions and you should be fine

btw...respond to this on a different topic under number sense...so we dont flood the calc forum with number sense...i guess you can call it Number Trick Study or something like that

after completing the last cruncher (#65), does anyone just go straight to the study list problems and go back to pg. 1 problems after he/she is done with 66-70?

Doesn't seem too likely, working off the fact that for people who punch first and do S and G next, last page S and G are worth +5 and -2 instead of +7 and 0 (because the rest of them are already "wrong" by default). Still, for a truly good calculator competitor, it's possible, especially for one who knows the study list extremely well and can get through them quickly and accurately (i.e., definitely not me).

Right, it depends on how far you expect to get through the test. +5 for problems you've already seen is usually a better rate than +7 for 5th page problems you haven't seen. So, I would probably advise people (who unlike Quell can finish crunchers in under 16 minutes) to do the study list first.

If I was that cut-throat about winning, I would never post in this forum anyway. :P

I honestly didn't expect to have any chance at winning an individual award. I had the 4th highest score in the state at region, but I had like 30th highest at district I bet. I was just hoping our team would do well enough to get in the top 2.

And I did remember the 1/3 I think. :P Although I forgot to multiply by 2 on one problem where it asked for diameter instead of radius (I can't remember which...we forgot to grab our tests so I don't have a copy).

Does anyone have a worked out solution set for the study problems they could email me? I've been able to figure out a little more than half, and it's easier for me to look on a sheet of paper with calculator in hand than it is to look at random # postings.
