I # at the stated problems that deal with latitudes, longitudes, etc. Would someone please help me on problems such as the following?

Tokyo, Japan and Tehran, Iran lie on a latitude of [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] and longitudes of [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] East and [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula] East, respectively. What is the length of the line of constant latitude between these two cities?

On the equator at the vernal equinox, at noon a straight stick driven vertically into the ground casts no shadow. What is the percent difference in the lengths of its shadow measured at 1:45 PM and 2:30 PM?

OK good, these were the questions I was going to ask also. How in the world do you do these!!!

Also how would you find the distance to the horizon if the person's height is say 5 foot 7 inches.

I got to agree with you here. Due to our limited straight vision in everyday life, we tend to treat the world as a flat object, and think straight distances are, well, straight, when in reality they are curved distances, made so by the curvature of the earth and it's gravitational field.

Hey but seriously.
My strategy to these stupid questions would be to SKIP! :P
This way, I can save up some time to check other stated and geometry questions.
If im done with all that nd the study guides [which I probably wont be] then i would sit and wait for the time to be called...
or check my NCs for accuracy... [or handwriting mistakes like sxk]

But yeah, it depends on the situation if it is a good idea to skip these questions or not.

If you want to compete for the top spots in tough competitions, it will not suffice to simply skip these kinds of questions, check over work (I never do this in Calculator), and sit pretty until time is called. The best people are differentiated from the good people by the ability to do these types of questions. These are the kinds of questions that will bring you from maybe a 250 to a 280, or a similar jump depending on the test (easier tests maybe 270 - 300+, harder tests a bit less, and so forth.)

Correction to my post: I do not know how to solve these problems very quickly and I am unskilled in handling them during the test.
