I think TDP has mentioned being frustrated with students that want to depend on their calculator for the general math test. The calculator can really slow you down. If there is a little trick, then it is usually faster to leave the calculator be. When I took the math test, I used my calculator only a few times. When it was imperative, like, [unparseable or potentially dangerous latex formula].
