Math Review

What could be so hard. It's a multiple-choice test for Pete's sake.

Math Review

Postby chrishuff » Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:41 pm

I haven't posted anything in quite some time, so I figured, eh why not? :)

So earlier today I took my Math Placement Exam which determines what class I start off with in college
Scored 17 out of 33, 5 questions shy of qualifying for Math 151 - Calculus [Right now I'm classified as Math 150 - Precalculus]
-____-

Ironically, the most of the questions I missed were from non-calculus based questions. Questions such as logs (not base 10), multiplying/dividing functions with exponents (Not the easy stuff, they know how to cram multiple concepts into one question). I got all questions pertaining to limits correctly. I mis-read a question that had a square root part on top and log on bottom which asked me to find the domain. I basically knew how to solve it, but for some reason, worked as if the square root was on bottom and the log was on top... -_____-

I can re-take the test to score 22+ out of 33 after 30 days, in which I will do so. This should make great review for the UIL Mathematics test :)

Hopefully you reach your goal. If there's anything you have clarification on, just ask here. It's always good to have multiple resources.

Improvement of 11 questions? Nice. Only about a month too? Congrats!

Thanks!

I only missed 1 trig problem (Got the rest right :D - But there are just so many trig identities/properties to memorize!)
I only missed 1 problem dealing with solving equations with logs (Not base 10)
I only missed 1 problem involving multiplying/solving equations with square roots, variables, imaginary numbers, etc. - Like those seen occasionally on the UIL Math tests.
The other 2 questions I do not remember (Ahh, short term memory loss!) D:

This was like a mini UIL Math test for me, even though I have 90 minutes, no calculator, and just paper and pen (I hate pencil, and will only use it when necessary, like for scantrons)

It just shows that I am improving in Math - I wonder what my District Math score will be o-O
