HORRIBLE TEST.

What could be so hard. It's a multiple-choice test for Pete's sake.

HORRIBLE TEST.

Postby nsguy1350 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 7:37 pm

I went to tryouts today, and I completely failed my tryout test. I will definitely make the team (score of 234 is fine team-wise), but that was my worst test in centuries. It's not that it was a hard test or I made stupid mistakes... I did only 39 questions, and I only got to 41!!!
I always finish those tests, and then I come to school and get to 41. I knew I was taking my time, but I didn't know I was going that slow.
Perfect accuracy, 39/39. However, the back 2 pages had ridiculously easy questions, and I could've gotten 300 easily with some more speed.
Luckily, I've taken these tests before, and got an average of ~ 300 (in the end, like 320 avg), so I know this HAS to be a fluke. I will definitely speed up big time next test, and not take my dear sweet time on every problem.
I need to redeem myself!!!
Hopefully Aledo and TMSCA State won't be like this!

In good news, I got a 364 on a NS test in tryouts, and a 337 (I wouldn't be surprised if there were answer key mistakes that cost me; the last one had 3, verifiable by calculator and everything).
I also got a 192 in Calculator, which is decent. I really need to get this up. Missed like 5-6 number crunchers, but I wasn't warmed up, so next time, I'll get my fingers ready first.
Next Math test Thursday, where I will redeem myself, with second calc test tomorrow, and last 2 NS tests Thursday morning.

The rest of my team has pretty bad scores; the NS scores average maybe 115-125, with the highest being around 150.
Math scores were lower than my incredibly horrible test (not too much lower, I saw a 228 and maybe some others were close)
Calculator was bad, with a 129, ~147, and nothing else above 100. I think there is one last girl who can break 100, but likely not 150.
The Calculator team captain wasn't even in the top 4 for the calculator tryouts!!!! Sad...

You have team captains?!? That's awesome, i wish my school had this, then i would be calculator, math, science, and social studies captain. hehe
And that's great that you did good in your tryouts, and you'll for sure do really good at TMSCA.

We simply don't have enough people for captains. Everyone's a lazy butt. No need.

I'm already NS captain, and there is no offical Math captain, although I'm basically that. I think next year, I will be captain of NS, MA,CA, and CS, with possibly SC senior year. I think colleges will like that! :p

It's because my school isn't serious about UIL. If I was at a competitive school, you wouldn't see anything like this happening (although I'd probably be better due to extra resources and extra motivation.) My UIL career gets lonely sometimes, so I'm fortunate to have you guys to help (both you guys helping me and me helping yall) and talk with.

At my school, the major problem is actually getting new people into the UIL Academics program, and finding people that will actually be dedicated to it, through studying and practicing, etc. And also finding teachers that will actually put some true and not fake effort into it. Our school has a huge problem when it comes to the coaches not coming to the meets but sending their team, which winds up as a no judge/grader fee for our program as a whole. If we didn't get slapped with such fees, then maybe we could afford going to more than one practice meet a month.

We planned on going to 5, but we instead have went to 4. If it weren't for me, we wouldn't be doing TMSCA State either, because I was the one who introduced the idea to my coach.
I don't like how that sounded. Sounded pretty bad. I meant no mean tone in the above sentence.

We only go to 3. Sad. But we have all these 'virtual meets', so it's all good.

Our major problem is motivation and conflicts. Thirteen people signed up for math and only two quit whenever it was time to decide teams. This is probably not a problem for you all, but at small schools, students do everything (sports, OAP, student council, academics, etc.), or nothing. With softball, baseball, and track practice starting, it is virtually impossible to have practice. I've had to conduct practices for my teams during the school day. None of our teachers wanted to be the coach, so I became one. I just wish my other classmates would take it as seriously as we do, but you can only do so much.

I have an okay coach, but yup it's hard when you're the only one at your school who has motivation. And nick is right, i'm from a small school and everyone is in everything, which become a problem for my school, so we got a UIL class, which has helped our scores, but then there's the people in the class who don't care which brings the whole team to a lower level instead of rising above. :/
