Help with a weird chemistry question

Postby labrat » Thu Mar 21, 2013 9:30 pm

What is the vapor pressure of liquid methanol at 25 C if the std. change in Gibb's free energy for the process = + 4.30 kj/mol? I thought I knew chem. pretty well, but this question has me stumped. Any help is really appreciated. Btw this question comes from this year's nat. chem. olympiad.

Nevermind, I think I figured it out. btw, answer is 134 mmHg. What confuses me is that from dG, I get K= 0.176, but if Kc = 0.176, shouldnt Kp = 4.31, since the change in moles of gas = +1? or is K from dG = -RT lnK, is K a Kc or Kp? TOTALLY CONFUSED.
